Our Curriculum

At Wootton Lower School we follow the National Curriculum in Years 1-4 and in the Foundation Stage we teach the Early Years Curriculum.  The National Curriculum and EYFS is taught through our well sequenced and progressive curriculum which provides children with wonderful and exciting ways to learn whilst ensuring they gain and retain knowledge which guides them to their next stage of learning. Each year group complete different topics throughout the year which are carefully chosen to excite our children. Please see our Policies page for more details.

We use Read Write Inc. to teach our children to read. RWI is a quality first phonics programme and is acknowledged by the DfE as meeting all its criteria for an effective phonics teaching programme. It is an exciting and highly successful approach to the teaching of reading, spelling and early writing. This prepares children well for their next stage of learning in Reading and Writing.
We also enhance our curriculum with the enrichment of trips and visits to widen children's experiences and create a strong offering to broaden their cultural capital. For example, during their time at Wootton Lower School children visit the theatre, a castle, the woods, a dinosaur park, a museum and a residential visit to name but a few. You can find out more about this via our 'Cultural Capital' tab.
