Reception has started to feel very festive and Christmassy this week as the children have been busy making paper chains, reindeers and snowflakes to decorate the classrooms. They have also enjoyed wrapping presents and writing cards in Santa’s workshop. We are really enjoying seeing the children putting their phonics to use in their play.
In literacy we’ve been reading the stories of ‘The Little Red Hen’, ‘The Busy Little Squirrel’ and ‘Percy the Park Keeper’. We always encourage the children to talk about the stories we share and introduce new vocabulary. Together we’ve been learning about different habitats and sorting animals into the correct homes.
In maths the children have been learning their number bonds to 5 and starting to recognise that 2 parts make 1 whole. We have also been talking about weight and comparing objects. Is the biggest box always the heaviest?
We are looking forward to learning our nativity next week. We will also be exploring 2d shapes in maths and finding out how shapes can be made by adding other shapes together. In literacy we will continue our learning on ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ and take part in some fun Write Dance activities.
Find out all of the exciting things we have been doing.
