Social, Emotional and Mental Health

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

There are lots of different resources and activities available to support your child's social, emotional and mental health. It is important to talk about feelings with your child, help them to understand what they are feeling and what the appropriate responses could be.
Some ideas that could try are:
  • Getting children to focus on their different senses can help them to relax and explore their emotions. For example you could ask them to listen to a piece of music or the birds singing, to walk slowly counting to ten,  or smell something sweet such as lavender.
  • Ask your child to lie down and place a teddy on their tummy, ask them to focus on the teddy moving up and down slowly with their breathing.
  • The School Run - This website has produced a list of recommended apps for children linked to their mental health and well-being.
  • Elsa Support - This website has some great resources for free linked to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Cosmic Den - This has some great calming exercises for children.
  • Reachout ASC - This website has some fantastic social stories linked to lockdown and homeschooling.
