Our CurriculumAt Wootton Lower School we follow the National Curriculum in Years 1-4 and in the Foundation Stage we teach the Early Years Curriculum. The National Curriculum and EYFS is taught through a “Creative Curriculum” providing children with wonderful and exciting ways to learn. All subjects are taught through a themed topic, covering all National Curriculum objectives in a fun and creative way. Please see our Policies page for more details.
We use Read Write Inc. to teach our children to read and write. RWInc is a quality first phonics programme and is acknowledged by the DfE as meeting all its criteria for an effective phonics teaching programme. It is an exciting and highly successful approach to the teaching of reading, spelling and writing. Each year group covers one topic per term. Each topic is introduced through a ‘stunning start’, which is designed to engage children in their learning and finishes with a ‘fabulous finish’ to celebrate all that has been achieved in the topic. From trips to Woburn Safari Park, Ice Skating, visiting the National Space Centre and Stoke Bruerne to fabulous days in school organised by the teachers, the children thoroughly enjoy these experiences For additional information on our curriculum, please contact the school office. |
Whole School DaysThroughout the year, themed days are woven into the curriculum to extend the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. During some of these days the year groups are mixed together. Teachers organise fun activities throughout the day, linking to the theme.
