I hope you all had a lovely half term break. This weeks story for family story time is 'Look Up' by Nathan Bryon. It is about a little girl with big dreams! I hope you enjoy it!
Welcome to this weeks Mrs Maguire's Family Story Time. This week we are reading 'The Koala Who Could' by Rachel Bright. This is the same author who wrote 'The Lion Inside' which we read in Week 1 of the story time sessions. This is a story all about having a 'growth mindset' and a 'can do' attitude to give things a try even when you find them tricky. I hope you enjoy!
Miss Wright and Mrs Maguire have put together the following slides to demonstrate how to support your child in their early writing skills in Reception and Year 1. Any questions please email us :)
This week is Children's Mental Health week and in honour of this I have chosen two stories about staying mentally well. The first 'The Colour of Happy' is aimed at EYFS and KS1 and the second 'Ruby's Worry' is more appropriate for KS1 and KS2. I have also suggested some follow up activities if you would like to explore these texts more as a family. I hope you enjoy!
Mrs Maguire's Magical Story Time this week is 'The Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis. A wonderful story about two sisters who go on an adventure and find a magical creature.
I hope you enjoy!
Welcome to week 1 of Mrs Maguire's Magical Story Time. Each week I will be sharing a new text for a family story time session. The texts will be suitable for all children in school to listen to and there will also be opportunity for family discussion of some key questions too. The text for this week is 'The Lion Inside' by Rachel Bright. I hope you enjoy!
The Oak National Academy is the online school portal set up in March to provide learning opportunities for children during the period of school closure. This is a resource that is free to use and still has lots of ideas being updated now. A recent initiative is a collaboration with the Literacy Trust to provide a 'school online library'. The site will publish an 'author of the week' and children will be able to access a story, some information on the author and some follow up activities to complete if they so wish. I would stress that this is a resource for both Primary and Secondary students so please ensure you check the story is suitable for your child's age range before they access it. However, this weeks story is a Tracey Beaker novel by Jaqueline Wilson which I am sure will interest some of our KS2 children.
The link for the website is https://library.thenational.academy and I would encourage you to check in each week and see if it is an author your child would be interested in.
Turtles would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
