Year 2 have made a tremendous start to their new topic.... COASTLINES. We have learned lots already about the UK and the Oceans and seas around us. The children loved hearing the story of Grace Darling and her fabulous sea rescue.
Year 1 have settled in beautifully to their new classrooms and have really enjoyed exploring the learning resources. We were really impressed with their amazing creations and discoveries! This week we have shared the story of ‘Traction Man is Here’ and the children set up superhero scenes where a superhero was needed to save the day! Well done Year 1 on having a super start to your learning.
Year 4 had a fantastic afternoon today learning all about directional language. As part of our computing lesson, we blindfolded our partners and gave them clear and concise instructions to follow around the playground. Our aim was to have them navigate through cones and along paths without bumping into anything. We learned that it is surprisingly difficult to walk in a straight line with you eyes closed!
In celebration of Teaching Assistant Appreciation Day, we asked staff and pupils what they thought made our TAs so special. So along with a big THANK YOU to all our TAs for being a big part of what makes WLS great, here are the teachers and pupils thoughts...
Year 3 have been enjoying learning about the sea creatures that their classes are named after. Stingrays, Porpoises and Swordfish!
After a fantastic week last week settling back into school life and getting to know their class teachers, Year 4 are really excited to get underway with their topic. This half term we will be going on a "Road Trip USA" and learning all about the United States of America. We will be finding out about the different states, native American history and comparing life in the USA with life in the UK.
As the start to our topic, the children enjoyed learning how to describe exactly where in the world the USA is using geographical language. Year 4 also completed an orienteering challenge to locate and collect tickets from 14 US states hidden around the field, before plotting their locations on a map of the USA. |
