Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this message finds you safe and well. Thank you - Today I should have been running in the MK Half Marathon and many thanks for those who sponsored me (link per button below). A poignant event as today would have been my Sister-in-Law’s birthday and I was running for Willen Hospice who provided amazing care for her. Whilst the event has been cancelled I have still been running (over 500k this year) and have completed my own half marathon in preparation. Rain rain go away - Last week would have been a tough one for many of you because the weather was cold and wet. A typical school day can be significantly impacted by the weather – sometimes it is lovely being in class when it is pouring with rain, but other times we wait for a gap in the clouds just to let the children get some fresh air for 5 minutes. Please don’t stress if last week didn’t go to plan, I know you are doing best you can and better times do lie ahead. On the positive, next week the sun is due to shine again and we should also find out a general plan of how schools will reopen. I honestly know as much as you at this time, but we have started to think what it could look like and on Friday I had a meeting with head teachers of 12 other schools (predominately in MK) where reopening was discussed. For us, this is not just about the practicalities of staying safe, but also ensuring we meet the emotional needs of your children alongside assessing where they are in terms of their academic standards and providing a decent transition into their next year group or school. Pupil Email - From some of the calls home it has come to light that some friends have lost contact with each other as you hadn't exchanged phone numbers. As such we are opening up the 2email function on PurpleMash for all pupils next week so that the pupils can email one another. This is a 'safe' email exchange as the emails can only be sent/received by pupils and teachers in our school. From Year 2 the pupils have had lessons on how to use the email programme and have been taught what appropriate behaviour is expected. Teachers will monitor emails from time to time and Mrs Grove has written a Parent Guide on how you can check what is being said and this is available by clicking on the button below. If you are happy for your child to use this email platform, can I please ask that you speak to your child about the safe use of email and ask them in turn to report anything that has upset them to you. Please let us know and we will investigate further. Any child acting inappropriately on 2email will be removed from the system. In addition if you do not want your child included in this email programme please email either the class teacher or Mrs Grove (lgrove@woottonlowerschool.co.uk) and we will remove their account from the system. If your child is in Year 1 or Reception they will need some support in sending / receiving messages. … and finally, many thanks for the positive comments regarding Mr T in the Kitchen. I am so pleased it bought a smile to so many faces and some photos of the amazing home baked cookies are shown below. Enjoy this week’s music video too and stay safe. Mr T
