As many of you may be aware, Radio 2 are once again running their 500 short story competition and this was launched across the country yesterday. We had an assembly at the Bedford Road site to explain to the children all about what the competition is; how to enter and what the prizes are and I was pleased to see the children were very excited. This year, the children entering are in with a chance of getting to visit Buckingham Palace as well as winning a large pile of books. The deadline for entries to the competition is 12th June 2020. Here is the link for further information on how to enter the competition and resources to help your children with their story writing:

I have decided to mark this occasion with our own Wootton Lower School 500 word story competition, open to Years 1-4. The window for entry is the same as the national competition and I will be choosing a winner and two runners up in each year group! Winners will be announced in the Summer term once the competition has closed. To enter, children need to complete their story either typed up or handwritten and submit their entries to Mrs Briers. Children can enter their stories into both the national and the school competition to double their chances of winning.
At the end of the competition, I will be making a ‘Wootton Lower School Story Book’ comprising of every story that I receive, which will be displayed in the entrance for every visitor, parent and child to enjoy.
For more information, see Mrs Briers.
Good luck and I can’t wait to read all of your exciting stories. Mrs Briers.
